How to Apply?
 
If you answered YES to the questions on the ‘Do You Qualify' page, and want the loan for one of the approved items or services that can be purchased with a NILS® Loan, and you reside in one of the following areas, Auburn, Canberra and ACT, Cobar, Gilgandra, Mudgee, Narromine, Penrith (Cranebrook), Queanbeyan, Ultimo - Yurungai Centre, Ultimo - Sydney Metro Centre and Wellington, click here to find the phone number of the appropriate Barnardos Centre.
 
The staff there will discuss the details with you, or arrange for someone to call you back, and if your enquiry can be progressed, they will give or send you the checklist and application form for completion.
  
Your interview to finalise the loan application can be scheduled once you confirm you can provide copies of the following:
  • Proof of ID (eg. Pension card, medicare card, drivers license, birth certificate)
  • Proof of residency in the postcode area (eg. utility or landline phone bills)
  • Rental statement for past six months
  • Bank or Building Society statements for past 3 months
  • Utility accounts and other regular expenses
  • Income details (eg. pension payments, casual or part time employment pay slips)
  • Up to three quotes depending on the type of item or service you wish to purchase
  • Completed and signed Application Form
  • Completed and signed Personal Budget Form
Following your interview, the Loan Application and copies of the required documents are forwarded to the Barnardos NILS® Loans Committee. The Committee will consider your application at their next meeting and you will then be advised in writing whether your loan has been approved or not.
 
If the application is approved, the:
  • Loan is established
  • Cheque is drawn for the item
  • Item is purchased and delivered; and
  • Repayments commence (through Centrepay or other regular method).
