Do you Qualify?

 
To qualify for a NILS® loan, you must be able to answer YES to the following:
  • Are you on a low income (eg. receiving Centrelink payments, have a Health Care Card, $40k or less)?
  • Do you live within the vicinity of a Barnardos Centre or Office for at least the past six months?
  • Is the loan for less than $1,200.00?
  • Is the loan for an approved item (see below)?
  • Is the item new?
  • Is the item being sold by a registered business? 
  • Are you willing and able to repay the loan within 12 months?
  • You have no outstanding NILS loans? 
Items for which the NILS® loan CAN be used include essential household appliances (eg. fridge or washing machine), household furniture (eg. baby items, beds, mattresses, lounges), health items (eg. mobility aids, dental, glasses, asthma pumps), technology (eg computer), outdoor equipment (eg. lawn mower) education (eg. tafe courses, textbooks), Repairs or maintenance (eg car, household), car registration/Insurances.
 
Items for which a NILS® loan CANNOT be used include emergency relief, bond or rent money, rent arrears, payment of utility bills, living expenses such as food, debt repayment or consolidation, cheques payable to the loan recipient, cheques to a third party for a private sale or to receive a cash payment.
