Do you Qualify?

 
To qualify for a NILS® loan, you must be able to answer YES to the following:
  • Are you on a low income (eg. receiving income support from Centrelink or a holder of a Health Care Card)?
  • Do you live within the vicinity of a Barnardos Centre or Office at the same address for at least the past six months?
  • Is the loan for less than $1,200.00 and for an approved item (see below)?
  • Do you have the ability to repay the loan over a 12 to 18 month period, at approximately $15 to $ 40 per fortnight?
  • You do not qualify for other affordable loans?
  • You would be willing to use Centrepay or other regular payment types to repay the loan?
  • You are willing to provide details of your financial situation?
  • Will this loan improve the health and well being of your family?
Items for which the NILS® loan CAN be used include essential household appliances (eg. fridge or washing machine), health or medical items (eg. wheelchair or dental costs), a computer, education or motor vehicles repairs or registration.
 
Items for which a NILS® loan CANNOT be used include debt repayment or consolidation, emergency relief, bond or rent money, payment of utility bills, living expenses, holidays, purchase of a motor vehicle, cheques payable to the loan recipient or a third party for a private sale or to receive a cash payment.
